The Last Waltz 40 Tour

A Celebration Of The 40th Anniversary Of The Last Waltz

Featuring Warren Haynes, Garth Hudson, Dr. John, Jamey Johnson, Don Was, Cyril Neville, Dave Malone, Bob Margolin, Terence Higgins, Danny Louis, Mark Mullins, Taj Mahal & very special guests.  Featuring the original horn arrangements of Allen Toussaint

Due to overwhelming demand on the first leg of The Last Waltz 40 Tour: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz, Blackbird Presents is proud to announce additional tour dates with a stop at the University of Texas Bass Concert Hall on Saturday, April 1.

Garth Hudson, one of two remaining original members of THE BAND, and Taj Mahal, the multi-GRAMMY AWARD®-winning blues singer-songwriter-composer, will also be joining Warren Haynes, Dr. John, Jamey Johnson and Don Was on the second leg of the 2017 “LAST WALTZ 40 TOUR.”

Hudson, the iconic multi-instrumentalist has been credited by his band members and brothers Robbie, Levon, Rick, and Richard for being the resident musical genius of The Band and helped create their unmistakable sound.

The Last Waltz 40 Tour, created by Keith Wortman and led by GRAMMY® Award-winning guitar legend and vocalist Warren Haynes and GRAMMY® Award-winning producer/musician Don Was, has been met with critical praise and warm reception from audiences across the country who have been thrilled night after night by the amazing music of The Band showcased in a unique light.  The additional dates will also include Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and GRAMMY® Award-winner Dr. John, Jamey Johnson, Terence Higgins, Danny Louis, an all-star horn section led by Mark Mullins featuring the original horn arrangements of Allen Toussaint, and very special guests Cyril Neville, Dave Malone, and Bob Margolin. Other very special guests to be announced.

“You soon knew that [The Band’s] legacy would be well feted. Earplugs were required — for the crowd, not the band,” wrote the Huffington Post in its review of the show at the Orpheum in Boston, Massachusetts. “The roar from the audience, which remained standing throughout the show, eclipsed even the occasional eerily screeching synth segments, and the unworldly bleats often coming out of the horns.”

"Whenever you’re doing someone else’s music, you’re paying respect and bringing the deepest parts of your own personality to bear. And you hope for surprises,” says Haynes in an article published by the Philadelphia Inquirer. "These songs – so deeply ingrained in the zeitgeist of who we are in this country – hearing them now is like finding a rare jewel.”

"People love these songs and they’ve become a part of the emotional zeitgeist of country. And unlike the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys or Pink Floyd songs, there’s nobody that’s playing this stuff for folks. You can’t really go to a concert and hear anyone playing The Band’s songs," says Don Was.

“The Last Waltz 40 Tour: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz” is an extension of Blackbird Present’s two-night, sold-out concert event “Last Waltz New Orleans: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz,” which took place during Jazz Fest 2016 at the historic Saenger Theatre. Heralded as one of New Orleans best events during Jazz Fest, the epic event paid tribute to The Band’s milestone final concert with unprecedented performances and an extraordinary lineup of artists. “The last 30 minutes of The Last Waltz @SaengerNOLA was best thing I’ve heard @jazzfest” said Keith Spera, music critic, The New Orleans Advocate.

Creator and executive producer Keith Wortman and Blackbird Presents have once again gathered a truly prodigious cast of musicians led by musical director GRAMMY® Award-winning guitar legend and vocalist Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule, The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead) and GRAMMY® Award-winning producer/musician Don Was, with GRAMMY® Award-winning singer/songwriter Dr. John, ACM Award-winning singer/songwriter Jamey Johnson, and legendary funk drummer Terence Higgins (Dirty Dozen Brass Band), along with the original horn arrangements of Allen Toussaint.

The show is presented by Larry Magid Entertainment Group
