The Temptations, known as The Emperors of Soul were the first Motown band to win a Grammy Award in 1969 with ‘Cloud Nine’ and the band was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, a tribute to a career that helped shape R&B music. The group has thirty-seven Top 40 hits to their credit, including fifteen Top 10 tunes and a quartet which soared to No. 1. On the R&B charts, they have fifteen No. 1 singles, and seventeen No. 1 albums. The titles alone summon memories beyond measure: “The Way You Do The Things You Do,” “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg,” “I Wish It Would Rain,” “Cloud Nine,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me),” “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone.” For always, the Temptations are sunshine on a cloudy day.
The Four Tops’ have been marveling audiences with their infectious blend of pure vocal power and sweet harmonies since 1954. Their groundbreaking sound and energizing vocal power includes soul, R&B, disco and jazz influences and helped define the Motown sound with multiple hits including “I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)," "Reach Out, I'll Be There", “Baby I Need Your Loving,” and "Ain't No Woman (Like The One I Got),” among others. In the 90s the group was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Today, The Four Tops include Adbul “Duke” Fakir, Theo Peoples, Ronnie McNeir and Rokie Payton.
