In The Mood

The 1940s Big Band, Swing Dance Musical at 3:00PM

Mar 29, 2013 3:00PM
San Jose Civic

Step back in time and get yourself “IN THE MOOD.” It’s coming your way… the singers … the dancers… the big band music that moved our Nation’s spirit! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to see it again and again – It’s the national touring BIG BAND MUSICAL – “IN THE MOOD” – live at the San Jose Civic, Friday March 29.

Much more than a concert, IN THE MOOD presents a retro 1940s musical revue featuring the IN THE MOOD Singers and Dancers with the sensational String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra. The music and the arrangements are as authentic as it gets. This was a time that all America was listening and dancing to the same kind of music.

In the 1940s, the combination of up-tempo big band instrumentals and intimate, romantic ballads set the mood for a future filled with promise, hope and prosperity. This was the time when the music moved the nation’s spirit!

“The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses” concert series is back with a third installment of multimedia shows to be toured worldwide, entitled “Master Quest.” This latest edition of the “The Legend of Zelda” symphony will add brand new music and visuals from recent and upcoming The Legend of Zelda games, but will maintain the beloved experience fans have come to expect as it embarks on a world tour. The tour will make a stop at City National Civic on Saturday, December 5, 2015.

Based on one of the most popular and beloved video game series of all time, the tour features live orchestral performances of theme music from Nintendo’s 28-year-old The Legend of Zelda franchise that will serve to introduce newcomers to the music and themes of the Zelda games and give long-time fans a chance to celebrate their favorite moments in the franchise.
Audiences can expect to experience awesome new inclusions from The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, the most recently released game in the series for Nintendo 3DS, and new music from the recently announced remake of fan-favorite The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. These never before performed scores accompanied by new gameplay imagery will appear for the first time ever in “Master Quest,” though fans will still be treated to the show’s now-classic repertoire from seasons past.

The name Symphony of the Goddesses refers not only to the concert program but also to the four-movement symphony recounting the classic storylines from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The performance also will highlight orchestral renditions of music from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Concerts will be performed by full orchestra and choir in world class venues throughout the world.

“The continued excitement around The Legend of Zelda franchise is amazing, and this special concert will deliver an unforgettable experience for fans,” notes Jason Michael Paul, President of Jason Michael Paul Productions, Inc, which is producing the concert tour. “These performances transcend culture and geography and unite people through a common love for this venerable and legendary series.”
Guests will enjoy their favorite moments from the now 28-year-old series, carefully and beautifully timed with a gorgeous orchestral score approved by Nintendo sound director and Zelda franchise composer Koji Kondo. The concert is a festive experience for all walks of fans, many of which attend “cosplaying” as their favorite characters.

Fans can view a complete tour schedule with ticketing information, and also sign up for a regularly updated digital newsletter, athttp://zelda-symphony.com. Club Nintendo members can enjoy an exclusive 15% discount to the show by logging into their accounts and looking for the discount code on the Symphony of the Goddesses banner. Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals are reuniting for their first tour in seven years and will make a stop at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday, September 18.

Pre-sale tickets for the headline shows will be available beginning today using the code BHIC2015 at benharpertickets.shop.ticketstoday.com. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 27, at 10:00 AM local time. For more information, visit www.BenHarper.com.

On March 25, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals will kick off a four-night stand at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, CA. The dates sold out in mere minutes as fans snapped up tickets for the band’s first shows together since their double encore set in September 2008 in Brazil. The band will also perform at numerous festivals this summer, including Boston Calling, Wakarusa, Bonnaroo and KAABOO. Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals last played Bonnaroo in 2007, where they were joined on the main stage by special guest John Paul Jones on the Led Zeppelin classic “Dazed and Confused.”

“The Innocent Criminals are a family,” Harper said of the band’s return to touring. “We’ve remained very close over the years and it seemed like we couldn’t wait another minute. We’ve all come full circle in our own ways and it is time we pick up where we left off. It’s creatively time for us to do this.”

Harper is currently in the studio with The Innocent Criminals – percussionist Leon Mobley, bassist Juan Nelson, drummer Oliver Charles, keyboardist Jason Yates and guitarist Michael Ward. Founding members Mobley, Nelson and Charles have been integral parts of Harper’s sound for more than 20 years, first playing gigs at the tiny Mint nightclub in Los Angeles and supporting Harper’s 1994 debut, Welcome to the Cruel World. Yates and Ward became ICs a decade later and helped expand and refine the band’s sound.

While Harper has sold millions of albums worldwide, it’s on stage that he and The Innocent Criminals established themselves as one of the world’s most versatile and hard-working bands. Touring non-stop behind such albums as Fight For Your Mind, The Will to Live, Burn to Shine, Diamonds on the Inside and the GRAMMY® nominated Lifeline, they earned legions of fans with their explosive live performances.

The Innocent Criminals also backed Harper and The Blind Boys of Alabama on the two-time GRAMMY® winning collaborative album There Will Be A Light. Ben also won a GRAMMY® last year for Best Blues album for his collaboration with Charlie Musselwhite, Get Up!

“The new music we’re writing honors the old IC sound, but is light ages ahead of where we were back then,” explained Harper. “I can’t wait for fans to hear it and give us that stamp of approval that only Innocent Criminal fans can give.”

Music legends and Grammy Award winning artists Willie Nelson & Family and Alison Krauss & Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas will be touring together in June and July of 2015. The tour will make a stop at Santa Barbara Bowl on July 22 at 7:00 PM.

The tour will mark the second time that Willie Nelson & Family and Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas have shared the stage together. The two groups came together last year for a highly anticipated and ultimately successful run of dates during the spring and summer months. The 2015 tour looks to provide more of the same, where unique personalities combined with impeccable musicianship and decades of award-winning songs are sure to create a show full of unforgettable moments.

With a six-decade career and 200 plus albums, Willie Nelson is the creative genius behind the historic recordings of “Crazy”, “Red Headed Stranger” and “Stardust.” He has earned every conceivable award as a musician and amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor and activist. Heroes, his 2012 release and first album for Legacy Recordings, spent five weeks at #1 on the Americana Radio Chart. His book, Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die, landed in the Top 10 on The New York Times’ best-seller list. In 2013, Willie’s albums included April’s Let’s Face The Music And Dance, an album of deep pop country repertoire classics performed with transformative patented ease by Nelson and Family, his long-time touring and recording ensemble; and October’s To All The Girls… which features 18 duets with music’s top female singers including Dolly Parton, Mavis Staples, Sheryl Crow, Loretta Lynn, Wynonna Judd, Rosanne Cash, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, and Shelby Lynne.

Alison Krauss is a virtuoso who effortlessly bridges the gap between roots music and country, rock and pop. Since signing with Rounder Records at the age of 14, Krauss has sold over 12 million albums and won 27 Grammy Awards, the most for any female and the second most of any recording artist in Grammy history. Paper Airplane is the latest masterpiece in Krauss’ illustrious career. Recorded in partnership with her remarkably skillful and renowned band, Union Station, the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country, Bluegrass and Folk Album Charts upon its release. Union Station – Jerry Douglas (dobro, lap steel, vocals), Dan Tyminski (guitar, mandolin, lead vocal), Ron Block (banjo, guitar) and Barry Bales (bass, vocals), with Krauss on lead vocal and fiddle – are five distinct personalities who come together to form something truly unique as a band. Each bandmate has his own bustling career, but when these singular musicians come together, they’re an airtight unit devoted to the process of making music together. Indeed, their connection is so close and deep that they’ve come to think of each other as family.
