Event Details
Acclaimed Japanese rock trio DOES will bring their electrifying live performance to the Music Box on Thursday, July 23, marking a highly anticipated San Diego stop as part of their 'Hello America' Tour.
Tickets for DOES at the Music Box go on sale Friday, May 1, at 10 AM via Ticketweb.
Formed in Fukuoka, Japan, DOES, comprised of Wataru Ujihara (vocals & guitar), Yasushi Akatsuka (bass & chorus), and Kesaku Morita (drums & chorus), has built a reputation for their raw, high-energy sound and stripped-down authenticity. Since their major debut with Ki/oon Records (Sony Music) in 2006, the band has become a defining force in Japanese rock, with a global fanbase fueled by both their explosive live shows and iconic anime collaborations.
DOES first broke into the mainstream with their 2007 single “Shura,” featured as the ending theme for the hit anime Gintama, debuting at No. 9 on the Oricon charts. They quickly followed with the breakout success of “Donten,” which climbed to No. 3 and surpassed 200,000 digital downloads.
Beyond the charts, DOES has left a lasting imprint across film and pop culture, including an on-screen appearance in Takashi Miike’s Crows Zero II. Their music has become synonymous with some of anime’s most beloved series, contributing themes to Gintama, Naruto Shippuden, and Space Brothers.
After celebrating their 10th anniversary with sold-out tours and multiple releases, the band entered a hiatus in 2016, only to make a powerful return in 2020. Since then, DOES has expanded its global reach, delivering standout performances at major international events, including SAUDI ANIME EXPO and selling out shows across Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Seoul.
Their digital impact continues to grow, with over 130 million combined streams across their top tracks. Viral performances on THE FIRST TAKE have introduced a new generation of fans to their catalog, with “Donten” surpassing 5 million views shortly after release.
In recent years, DOES has further solidified its international presence through festival appearances across Asia and a successful overseas tour, Doppo Angya ~Retsun Asia Chapter~, demonstrating its enduring appeal and rising global demand.
Fans can expect a powerful, high-energy set on July 23 at the Music Box, featuring fan-favorite hits and deep cuts that showcase the band’s signature intensity and musical evolution.
